It is primarily used in gas-insulated ring main units (such as gas-insulated switchgear), prefabricated substations, or small switching stations, where it performs the functions of switching, isolating, and providing ground protection for circuits.
Key Features:
Three-in-One Design: This is its most distinctive feature. It integrates three functions—circuit breaker (closing/opening), isolator (isolation), and earthing switch (earthing)—into a single module, achieving the following:
1.Closed Position: The circuit is energized and can carry and interrupt load currents as well as short-circuit currents.
2.Open Position: The circuit is disconnected, forming a visible isolation break to ensure maintenance safety.
3.Ground Position: Grounds the outgoing line to prevent backfeed and ensure personnel safety.
4.Visible Break: In the open position, it provides a clearly visible isolation break—a core requirement of the isolator function—allowing maintenance personnel to visually confirm that the circuit is disconnected, significantly enhancing safety.
5.Compact Design: By integrating multiple functions, it significantly saves internal space in switchgear compared to using separate circuit breakers, isolators, and grounding switches, making it particularly suitable for applications with strict space constraints.
6.Interlocking Mechanism: Comprehensive mechanical interlocks are designed between the three positions to ensure operations can only be performed in sequence (for example, the circuit breaker must be tripped before the isolator can be moved to the isolation or grounding position), fundamentally preventing misoperation.
